Sensei Eugene Kitney's gentle spirit and yetツstructured approach with the children provide for a balanced teacher with an incredible ability to reach children of all levels of experience. His love for the art inspired my daughter and gave her confidence. While he is a wonderfully gifted encourager, he is also firm with the children, teaching them self control and self respect. Additionally, he knows how to have fun with the children- make them laugh, giggle, and be silly. He also has expectations of them and insists upon "best efforts". We were terribly sad when Sensei moved as our daughter had discovered a love for the art and seen her come out of her shell while under his instruction. A year later, she remembers everything she learned and can often be heard counting in Japanese!

Sensei Kitney was understanding and gentle, yet firm at the same time.  His expectations of performance from the students were not just a reflection of his martial arts training but his christian beliefs.  My son was able to take his cerebral, anti-social behavior and re-direct his attitude into a positive, friendlier state of mind.  We miss you and hope you come back and visit soon.

My 7 year old son enjoyed Karate classes with Sensei Kitney very much. Each time for him was a festivity.
Sensei Kitney is benevolent coach and devoted instructor. He possesses great self-command – vital quality when dealing with children. According to my son, training was interesting fun without undermining purpose and values of Karate.
After half year of training I saw significant improvement in my son’s behavior and self-control.
Sensei Kitney is greatly missed in our community.

What we liked:

Eugene is reliable, trustworthy, fair, generous, and deeply care about the kids.
He had a perfect balance of instruction and fun incorporated into all of his classes.
It was very, very inexpensive. It was an activity that I never thought I would sign my kids up for. But since it was affordable and in our neighborhood, I thought it was worth trying it. Now they are hooked!
Not having contracts is such a huge plus. There is no pressure (financially) to continue if the child really does not enjoy it or gets too busy with other activities.

It was a class they really, really looked forward to. They have been taking classes for 2 years. I never would have thought they would still be so interested in it. But they love working towards the goal of getting the next belt. Both Josh and Courtney are determined to get their black belts!

What we don't like:
He moved!!! :(
